Senior Research Associate, Division of Freight, Transit, & Heavy Vehicle Safety (DHVY), Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI)
Dr. Erin Mabry is a Senior Research Associate with the Division of Freight, Transit, & Heavy Vehicle Safety (DHVY) at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI). During her 17-year tenure with the VTTI, Dr. Mabry has conducted large scale studies with heavy vehicle drivers to better understand the prevalence of obesity and associated chronic health conditions, and examining associations between medical conditions and safety, among this at-risk population. Dr. Mabry currently leads health research initiatives for the DHVY and has conducted health, sleep, and fatigue research with heavy vehicle drivers to inform best practices and guides for implementing health and sleep disorder programs for the trucking industry. Dr. Mabry also has applied experience developing educational and training materials for target groups and leading outreach initiatives focused on driver health and safety. Recently, in the vein of transportation safety and outreach, Dr. Mabry has led outreach and training programs for heavy vehicle drivers to recognize, report, and combat human trafficking.
